to teach problem solving and anger management skills

The purpose of the program is

to help children learn healthy and safe ways to express anger
to help children and youth develop positive communication skills
to encourage the expression of feelings through talk, play and creative activity.
to dispel common myths surrounding family abuse/violence
to provide a safe place that allows children and adolescents to share feelings and stories
to begin to strengthen self-esteem
to teach alternative problem solving anger management and coping skills to abuse/violence

Counseling Services in Keremeos and Area

The CWWA Program provides individual support to youngsters, ages 3-18 who are in a stable situation but who sometimes have difficulties because of their experience with past violence at home. The program may also include support, education and groups for parents, educational talks/workshops in the community upon request, and groups in local schools.

Every year many children/adolescents witness domestic violence/abuse. Each child reacts differently to the abuse. The effects of family conflict can include:

fear or terror
aggression towards others – attitude that violence is OK
depression/sadness – shrinking from activity, few happy times, no excitement in being and doing
sleeplessness
trying to be perfect
anxiety or nervousness – distracted by fear or worry
low self-esteem
withdrawal or clinging behaviors
poor concentration and/or school performance
eating or appetite problems
